PROGRAM LEVEL

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences program is a four-year academic program (8 semesters) with a total of 130 credits. The program gained full confidence and was accredited by the National Authority for Qualification and Quality Assurance of Education & Training. The Medical Laboratory Scientist contributes to the development and application of new techniques for improved disease diagnosis. The program aims to graduate competent Diagnostic Medical Laboratory Scientists who contribute to the delivery of quality healthcare, both nationally and internationally. Specific courses focus on all major disciplines of diagnostic Hematology, Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Immunohematology, Histopathology, and Cytology.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Graduates of the BSc in medical laboratory science  will be prepared to:

    1. Exhibit the required professionalism, quality attributes, and compliance with safety protocols while performing the diagnostic tests in clinical laboratories.
    2. Apply critical thinking in troubleshooting, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of laboratory results.
    3. Improve the health services and profession by conducting research and utilizing updated scientific evidence.
    4. Communicate effectively with patients, healthcare professionals, and the management of healthcare services.
    5. Adhere to the code of ethics, principles, and values towards patients and other healthcare providers.
    6. Demonstrate management and leadership skills at the workplace.

PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

The program graduates will be able to:

    1. Develop knowledge and skills in medical laboratory sciences for the interpretation of laboratory data
    2. Apply advanced knowledge and skills to effectively analyze and solve complex problems in medical laboratory settings.
    3. Practice laboratory safety rules and precautions for lab work.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Pass all the major courses shown in the curriculum plan with a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0/4.0
  2. Achieving a minimum grade of C (70%) as proof of mastery on all professional courses and a minimum grade of D (60%) for non-professional courses.
  3. Successful completion of all credit hours ( A total of 130 credits)
