PROGRAM LEVEL
The Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery program aims to graduate competent and qualified midwives who provide safe, comprehensive, culturally congruent, and evidence-based midwifery care for women, newborns, families, and communities according to the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) scope of practice for midwives. The program duration is one and a half years (three semesters), with a total of 23 credit hours. It is currently undergoing placement at level nine of the National Qualifications Framework.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The graduates of the program will be prepared to:
- Practice efficiently in various healthcare settings with diverse populations within a legal and ethical framework.
- Deliver advanced prenatal, intra-natal, and postnatal care for healthy women and newborns and refer the high-risk conditions.
- Apply practical communication skills in collaborative roles between women, families, and communities within multidisciplinary teams.
- Adapt lifelong independent learning skills and competencies.
- Integrate evidence-based practice and critical thinking skills in decision-making.
- Contribute to the midwifery profession’s advancement through active participation in institutional and national health policy development.
PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The graduates of the program will be able to:
- Provide safe, holistic, cost-effective, and high-quality maternity care within the ethical and legal principles in all aspects of midwifery care.
- Construct effective communication skills with professional team members, women, family, and communities.
- Incorporate critical thinking, reflective analytical, and research skills in providing evidence-based maternity care for women and their families.
- Engage in independent, lifelong learning and continuous professional development activities.
- Apply a comprehensive nursing process approach for women and their families within the midwifery scope of practice.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates wishing to apply to the program must have the following:
- Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Bahrain or any
equivalent degree from a recognized university. - Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) equals or above 2.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent in other systems.
- Hold a valid nursing license from the concerned responsible authorities e.g., National
Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), Saudi Commission for Health Specialties
(SCFHS), Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB)… etc. - Pass the personal interview at the department level.
- Submit two recommendation letters.
- English language competency with an overall score of 475 in TOEFL or 5.5 in IELTS or
passing the English competency test at UoB.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
- Pass all courses shown in the curriculum plan with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), 3.0 out of 4.0 according to University of Bahrain postgraduate policy.
- Fulfil the requirements of the consolidation of midwifery practice and complete all the required competencies international confederation of Midwives standards of Midwifery education.
