PROGRAM LEVEL
The Postgraduate Diploma in Critical Care Nursing is a specialized program designed graduate specialized critical care nurses with advanced knowledge and competent skills in providing evidence-based nursing care for patients with complex and life-threatening conditions within the ethical and legal frameworks. The program duration is one academic year (two semesters) with a total of 21 credit hours. The program is placed on NQF level 9 in 2024.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The graduates of the program will be prepared to:
- Demonstrate expertise in the delivery of specialized critical nursing care.
- Employ leadership and collaborative roles in critical care settings.
- Pursue further career development and advanced postgraduate studies in the critical care nursing field.
- Assume responsibilities of dealing with ethical and legal issues related to critical nursing practice.
- Contribute to the advancement of critical nursing care specialty through lifelong independent learning.
PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The graduates of the program will be able to:
- Incorporate advanced theoretical knowledge in critical nursing practice.
- Deliver specialized critical nursing care based on the current evidence and clinical guidelines
- Utilize contemporary soft skills and technology in the care of critically ill patients.
- Employ a collaborative role between patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams at diverse critical care settings.
- Demonstrate accountability in providing safe nursing care within ethical and legal frameworks.
- Apply advanced research skills for the enrichment of the critical care nursing specialty
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates wishing to apply to the program must have the following:
- Hold a BSc degree in Nursing approved from the University of Bahrain or any other equivalent universities.
- Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) equal to or above 2.67 out of 4.0 or its equivalent in other systems. Applicants who have a CGPA from 2.33 up to 2.66 could apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery program after passing three remedial courses according to University of Bahrain postgraduate policy.
- Pass the personal interview at the department level.
- Submit two recommendation letters.
- Minimum one year of clinical experience, while being active on duty.
- Hold a valid nursing license from the concerned responsible authorities e.g., National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB)… etc.
- English language competency with score of 475 in TOFEL or 5.5 in IELTS.
