PROGRAM LEVEL

The BSN program at the College of Health Sciences, established in 2003, aims to graduate professional nurses capable of providing competent, safe, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive care across the lifespan. The curriculum adopts innovative strategies like competency-based and case-based learning to equip students with essential nursing knowledge, skills, and values. The program undergoes regular reviews to maintain academic standards and received full confidence from Bahrain’s Education & Training Quality Authority (BQA) in 2021. It has been placed on Level 8 of the National Qualification Framework (NQF) since 2016.

In 2023, the curriculum was updated based on benchmarking and feedback, integrating the Nurse of the Future Model and (Quality and Safety Education for Nurses) QSEN framework. The program includes clinical training in collaboration with healthcare services to ensure practical competency and lifelong learning. The curriculum of BDN is composed of 132 credit hours.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The graduates of the program will be prepared to:

  1.  Provide competent, culturally sensitive, evidence-based nursing care by integrating knowledge, skills, and attitude.
  2. Apply clinical reasoning, decision-making, reflective analytical and leadership skills in the provision of nursing care.
  3. Demonstrate self-directed role in providing safe nursing care within the ethical, legal and professional nursing standards.
  4. Collaborate with clients and multi-disciplinary healthcare teams using professional communication skills and advanced technologies.
  5. Demonstrate commitment to the enrichment of community welfare.
  6. Contribute towards the advancement of the profession and healthcare services through lifelong learning and the application of basic research skills.

PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

The graduates of the program will be able to:

a. Integrate theoretical knowledge with professional nursing practice.
b. Provide competent evidence-based nursing care at diverse clinical settings.
c. Apply the international nursing standards in all aspects of nursing care.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The applicants of the program must fulfill the general admission requirements for undergraduate studies at the University of Bahrain in addition to the specific requirements of the College of Health and Sports Sciences and following program specific admission requirements:

– A secondary school certificate or its equivalent with a minimum of 90% or above in scientific stream.
– Submit a medical fitness certificate from one of a certified health center or hospital in the Kingdom of Bahrain
– English Language Competency
– Pass a professional personal interview at the department level.

DEGREE AWARDING REQUIREMENTS

– Pass the BSN Program with an overall CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
– Have the GPA of the major requirements courses at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
